What does it mean to seek God?
Before we can start talking about unique ways of seeking God, we must first understand what it means to seek Him.
Think about when you first met your spouse or your best friend. You didn’t just have one conversation with them and then assume you knew everything about them. You probably have spent countless hours talking, spending time with, doing activities with, and learning them. To quote Shay Mooney of Dan and Shay, “It’s 10,000 hours to get proficient at something or to truly master something. Whether it’s 10,000 hours to get to know that person, or really love them in the best way, or the rest of your life.” While this song was written about their adorable wives, the same principle can be applied to any relationship we have, including the one with our God.
Seeking God is a daily activity. It is something we must develop a passion for. When we have a passion to love and honor God, living with thanksgiving, and in awe of His goodness, that will lead to actions of obedience. If you are feeling called to seek God, He is actually seeking you.
“Seek the Lord and his strength;
seek his presence continually!” Psalm 105:4
Why should we Seek God?
Ultimately, seeking God, is seeking the experience of God’s presence in our lives. We should desire to seek Him the way that Christ seeks Him. Throughout the Word, Christ is constantly communicating with His Father. Praying, talking, blessing others, serving….all ways He was seeking God.
If we desire a relationship with Him, we must get to know Him. If we want to truly experience what He has for our lives and our purpose, we need to spend time with Him. He created the world and people in it with the great desire for relationship. He WANTS us. He sent Christ to redeem us so we can have eternity with Him. He has placed the desire of knowing Him in our hearts, so we should be obedient in finding ways to do so.
How can we Seek God?
When it comes to seeking God, we know that in order to truly learn Him and have a deep relationship with Him, it requires a lot of time.
